The father of the 16-year-old girl who allegedly was sexually groomed by suspended SAPS Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is facing imminent fraud charges after police uncovered that he is allegedly in possession of three identity documents bearing the same name but with different ID numbers.
The revelation has triggered a fresh criminal inquiry that could see the Polokwane businessman, already under investigation for defamation and insulting a police officer, charged with fraud.
Police in Limpopo have confirmed that investigations into the businessman are at an advanced stage.
While Brigadier Athlenda Mathe would not confirm that charges are coming, a police source told Africa Daily that an inquiry into the alleged multiple IDs has been opened and Home Affairs has already been approached for statements.
“The police are investigating allegations of fraud and possession of multiple identity documents. An inquiry was opened and statements have been obtained from Home Affairs. Once verification is complete, the docket will be sent for prosecutorial guidance,” the source said.
Another senior Limpopo police source said that although Mathe would not confirm an imminent arrest, fraud charges are all but certain.
“He is going to be charged with fraud. The evidence is clear. You cannot have three different IDs with three different numbers. That is fraud, plain and simple,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
“He is not just a businessman. He presents himself as someone with deep connections inside SAPS, and those connections have now become a subject of two separate criminal investigations.”
The latest probe compounds the businessman’s growing legal troubles.
Last week Africa Daily reported that two separate criminal cases – Polokwane CAS 512/09/2026 and CAS 513/09/2026 – had been opened against him for defamation and crimen injuria after he allegedly insulted a uniformed officer.
In the first case, CAS 512, he is accused of making defamatory statements on social media where he accused a senior officer of corruption without evidence.
In the second, CAS 513, he allegedly swore at and insulted a police officer during a heated exchange at a police station. Crimen injuria, the unlawful and intentional impairment of another person’s dignity, is a criminal offence often used when police officers are verbally abused on duty.
But police say the fraud inquiry is potentially more serious.
Possession of multiple IDs with different numbers is a violation of the Identification Act and is routinely prosecuted as fraud, identity fraud and contravention of Home Affairs regulations. If convicted, it carries a direct prison sentence.
The businessman, who hung up on Africa Daily when the allegations were put to him, is no stranger to controversy.
Originally from Polokwane, he has built a reputation as a flashy socialite and self-styled security mogul, often linked in tabloids to high-profile relationships with local entertainers.
He is a controversial businessman with deep ties to Sibiya himself. In February 2026, a viral TikTok video showed him alongside Sibiya, sparking intense scrutiny at a time when SAPS was already under the spotlight at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. The commission has heard testimony about alleged rogue operations involving private figures, notably tenderpreneur Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
At the time the businessman told another publication there was “nothing sinister” about his relationship with Sibiya, whom he described as a “brother and father figure” of more than a decade. He said his company, Intelligence-Led Protection Trusted, officially provides security services to Sibiya’s family.
That defence is now complicated by his own criminal record.
In 2019 he was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Unit for allegedly defrauding the Matlosana Municipality of R1.8 million in 2016. He was also sued by Standard Bank over a separate commercial banking fraud complaint involving alleged financial irregularities.
In the entertainment press he made headlines again after a leaked audio in which he allegedly told TV personality Palesa Madisakwane: “You will f***ing know my true colours,” warning her not to mess with him.
