Internationally acclaimed composer Lebohang Morake, popularly known as Lebo M, is set to bring South Africa's political leaders together for a national debate focusing on migration, the township economy and leadership ahead of the local government elections.
In a statement issued by his public relations manager, Simphiwe Majola, on Monday, 2 November, Lebo M said he would lead The Final Debate, organised by the Lebo M Foundation, at Nu Metro Hyde Park in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 3 November.
The debate will be held under the theme "The Future of South Africa: Leadership, Accountability and the Power of Culture" and aims to move beyond political promises by challenging leaders to provide practical solutions to some of the country's pressing challenges.
According to the statement, the discussions will focus on three key areas, namely migration, the development of township economies and political leadership and accountability.
On migration, political representatives will be expected to outline their proposed approaches to border management, immigration policy, public services and social cohesion while balancing national interests with constitutional responsibilities and human dignity.
The township economy will also feature prominently, with discussions expected to examine how government can support small businesses, improve access to funding and create employment opportunities for young entrepreneurs and informal traders.
The debate will further examine the quality of political leadership and how public representatives can translate their promises into measurable improvements in the lives of ordinary South Africans.
Majola said ActionSA, the African Transformation Movement (ATM) and Jacinta Zuma had confirmed their participation.
Invitations have also been extended to the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), the African National Congress (ANC) and other political representatives.
Lebo M, whose creative work has helped take African music and storytelling to international audiences, will use the platform to highlight the role of culture and the creative industries in South Africa's development.
The foundation said the initiative was not an endorsement of any political party but rather a platform for constructive engagement across political and ideological differences.
It added that the country's creative industries had the potential to contribute to job creation, entrepreneurship, investment and township development.
The gathering will bring together political representatives, thought leaders, invited guests and members of society.
Majola said attendance will be strictly by invitation and prior accreditation.
