A 53-year-old man accused of murder has abandoned his bail application in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court.
According to NPA Gauteng Pretoria regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the accused is facing a murder charge stemming from an incident in Refilwe Extension 3 on 1 September 2026.
Mahanjana said a group of young people were celebrating Spring Day by pouring water on one another and on people passing by.
“It is alleged that while the accused was walking past, the group attempted to pour water on him,” Mahanjana said.
The accused allegedly took out a knife and stabbed one of the young people.
Mahanjana said the victim was taken to a local clinic, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to Mahanjana, the accused was arrested on the same day at Ekangala Hospital after he was allegedly apprehended and assaulted by members of the community.
The accused has since abandoned his bail application.
Mahanjana said the matter was postponed to 27 October 2026 for further investigations.
