The 24-year murder suspect who allegedly kidnapped and killed an 18-year wheelchair-bound Anna Ramollo from Ga-Rakhoatha Extension in Zebediela will appear in court on Friday, August 7.
This after police made a major breakthrough in the investigation that led to the arresting of the suspect who had been on the run for nearly three months.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Polokwane during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Investigation Unit. He is expected to appear before the Zebediela Periodical Court, facing charges of kidnapping and murder.
The arrest follows months of investigations into the brutal killing that shocked the Ga-Rakgoatha Extension community and sparked widespread calls for justice.
Anna was reported missing in May after leaving her home with her 24-year-old brother. According to police, witnesses last saw the pair near Bergeneck village outside Zebediela, where her brother was reportedly pushing her wheelchair.
A massive search involving police and community members was launched before the case took a tragic turn when Anna’s mutilated body was discovered buried in a shallow grave near Bergeneck Road.
Since then, investigators have been pursuing leads to identify and arrest those responsible for the horrific crime.
Welcoming the breakthrough, Limpopo
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers commended members of the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Investigation Unit for their persistence and dedication.
“This arrest is the result of relentless work by our members, who remained committed to ensuring that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought before the courts. We remain determined to secure justice for the victim and her family,” said Scheepers.
Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing, particularly into the disappearance of Anna’s 24-year-old brother, who remains missing nearly three months after he was last seen with the teenager.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in locating him or advancing the investigation to come forward.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to make his first court appearance.
