Pearl Mbewe, the former partner of veteran actor Sello Maake kaNcube, has sparked speculation about the pair’s relationship after returning to work with him as his public relations manager.
Mbewe recently shared details of Maake kaNcube’s latest project, Men of Purpose™, prompting questions on social media about whether the former couple had rekindled their relationship.
The renewed professional association has also attracted attention because of their history.
Mbewe and Maake kaNcube were previously in a relationship before their highly publicised split. Their relationship played out in the public eye, with both making headlines over developments surrounding their personal lives.
Mbewe has now returned to Maake kaNcube’s professional orbit, this time helping to promote and manage communications around his work.
However, she has stopped short of confirming whether their relationship has also been revived.
“For now, I am not saying anything beyond that. I will make an announcement when I am ready. At this stage, we are working together and I am helping him with his work. We obviously have a working relationship,” Mbewe said.
Her comments have done little to settle the speculation, but make clear that the relationship between the two currently includes a professional component.
Maake kaNcube is preparing to launch Men of Purpose™, a platform aimed at creating a space for men to reflect on purpose, responsibility, leadership, family and legacy.
The inaugural Men of Purpose experience is scheduled for 17 October 2026 at Sakhumzi Zoo Lake Restaurant in Johannesburg.
The initiative is being established by Maake kaNcube after more than five decades in South Africa’s creative and cultural sector. It is intended to grow beyond a single event into a platform focused on dialogue, mentorship, personal development, leadership and community engagement.
Mbewe is providing public relations support for the project through Wisdom Mobile Marketing Solutions.
While her return to Maake kaNcube’s professional team has prompted questions about their personal relationship, Mbewe has chosen to keep that part of her life private for now.
