Three suspects allegedly linked to the illegal distribution and sale of an examination paper have been brought closer to facing justice, a decade after the fraud was reported.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Avele Fumba said the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team in Musina traced the suspects and served them with court summonses following a lengthy investigation.
The case dates back to November 2015, when six students allegedly gained unlawful access to an examination paper before it was written.
The paper was allegedly shared among the students and later sold to other students for about R250 per copy.
Fumba said the Musina Serious Corruption Investigation team continued efforts to trace those implicated in the case.
Three suspects, aged between 30 and 33, were eventually traced to Tshilamba, Khubvi and Thohoyandou, respectively.
They were each served with J175 summonses and are facing charges of fraud.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrates’ Court on 5 October 2026.
Investigations into the remaining suspects are continuing.
Fumba said Limpopo Hawks provincial head Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender welcomed the breakthrough and praised the investigation team for continuing to pursue the case despite the passage of time.
“The passage of time does not erase accountability. This case demonstrates that the Hawks remain committed to following the evidence and ensuring that allegations of fraud are properly investigated and placed before the courts,” Govender said.
