When the Springboks suffered a shock 33-16 defeat to the All Blacks at Ellis Park on 22 August 2026, concerns were raised over their ability to withstand New Zealand’s challenge in the four-Test
Series.
But Rassie Erasmus and his charges have answered their critics in emphatic fashion.
The Springboks completed a remarkable turnaround on Saturday, beating the All Blacks 43-28 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, USA, to clinch the inaugural four-Test Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series 3-1.
South Africa produced arguably its most impressive performance of the series, crossing for six tries as they combined physical dominance with attacking flair to finally put the All Blacks to the sword.
The victory capped a remarkable comeback after the opening defeat.
The Boks responded by winning the second Test 33-26 in Cape Town, followed by a thrilling 29-24 victory at FNB Stadium before sealing the series in Baltimore.
The triumph was also a landmark occasion for Erasmus, marking his 100th Test in charge of the Springboks since 2018. The victory further strengthened South Africa’s position at the summit of the world rankings.
From the disappointment of Ellis Park to a commanding 3-1 series triumph, the Springboks have once again demonstrated why they remain the team to beat in world rugby.
