Hawks Arrest Joburg Property fraudster

The Hawks have arrested a 57-year-old man who allegedly sold properties belonging to the City of Joburg and pocketed the money.
This was revealed by Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale in a statement on Wednesday 17 June 2026.
Mogale said the suspect is expected to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 18 June 2026 .
Mogale said the suspect was nabbed By the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit when he was about to board a flight at OR Tambo International Airport on 16 June.

The man faces charges of fraud, theft, forgery, uttering, and corruption under Section 4 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004.

Mogale said the case dates back to May 2010 and centres on the Johannesburg Property Company, JPC, the City’s property management entity. Hawks investigators allege that several JPC-owned properties were unlawfully sold to unsuspecting buyers. Title deeds were transferred. Ownership changed. But JPC never received payment for the sales.
