A female member of the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party was gunned down execution-style at her parental home in Tzaneen, Limpopo, last weekend.
Kabedi Nanny Mokgathi was fatally shot in cold blood, allegedly in the presence of her mother, at Moime village outside Lenyenye township on Saturday morning.
The 29-year-old was laid to rest at Lenyenye Cemetery near Khujwana village on Saturday, October 31.
The motive for Mokgathi’s gruesome killing had not been established at the time of publication.
According to information received, Mokgathi had just arrived home with her mother when she was confronted by an armed man.
It is alleged that the gunman fired six shots at her, with two bullets striking her.
Mokgathi was rushed to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
During the funeral service on Saturday, mourners, including members of the MK Party, descended on the village to pay their last respects to the fallen heroine whose life was cut short by gun violence.
A sombre atmosphere enveloped the village, also known as Motjeteng, where the funeral service was held amid solemn hymns and moving reflections on her life and dreams.
Mourners from the village, which has limited road infrastructure, gathered outside Mokgathi’s home. They quickly fell into a stoic silence and bowed their heads as the vehicle carrying her casket arrived.
When the programme officially started, several speakers from different walks of life took to the podium to deliver poignant eulogies in honour of the fallen heroine.
After paying their respects, mourners joined a procession of vehicles that made its way through the streets towards the cemetery, where Mokgathi’s body was laid to rest.
Upon arrival at Lenyenye Cemetery, members of the MK Party, dressed in the party’s regalia, carried Mokgathi’s casket to her final resting place.

As the casket was lowered into the grave, several heartbroken members burst into tears as they bid farewell to a young life cut short by gun violence.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba confirmed Mokgathi’s murder.
