The Competition Commission has approved the acquisition of ContiTech Deutschland by SCUR-Alpha 2068 GmbH, subject to a moratorium on merger-specific retrenchments.
Competition Commission spokesperson Siyabulela Makunga announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday, 22 October 2026.
SCUR-Alpha 2068 GmbH, referred to as SCUR, is an investment vehicle linked to a group of private equity funds that invest across various economic sectors.
ContiTech provides engineered rubber, thermoplastic and fabric technology solutions to customers in several industries.
Its products and services are used in sectors including agriculture, food, construction, energy and mining.
The Commission considered the proposed transaction and found that it was unlikely to substantially lessen or prevent competition in any market.
However, employment concerns arising from the transaction were addressed through an agreed condition.
The acquisition was approved subject to a moratorium on merger-specific retrenchments for the duration of the agreed moratorium period.
The condition is intended to protect employees against retrenchments directly linked to the merger during the specified period.
The Commission did not specify the length of the moratorium in its statement.
The approval was among several merger decisions announced following the Commission’s ordinary meeting on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
Unlike transactions that the Commission only recommended for approval by the Competition Tribunal, the SCUR-ContiTech transaction was approved by the Commission itself, subject to the stated condition.
