Hatfield Holdings has received the Competition Commission’s recommendation for the acquisition of four GWM Haval and Chery dealerships in the Western Cape without conditions.
The Commission recommended that the Competition Tribunal approves the proposed transactions, spokesperson Siyabulela Makunga said in a statement issued on Thursday, 22 October 2026.
The acquisitions involve two GWM Haval dealerships and two Chery dealerships currently held by National Pride Trading 553 and RSRS Holdings.
The transaction also includes the property at Erf 17793 in Brackenfell, Cape Town, from which the Chery Cape Gate and GWM Cape Gate dealerships operate.
The dealerships are located in Strand, Somerset West, Somerset Mall and Cape Gate.
The two GWM Haval businesses operate at 274 Main Road in Strand, Somerset West, and 4 Repens Crescent in Cape Gate.
The Chery dealerships operate at 2 Urtel Crescent at Somerset Mall and 4 Repens Crescent in Cape Gate.
Hatfield Holdings operates branded motor dealerships across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
Its portfolio includes Audi, BYD, Chery, Ford, GWM Haval, Mazda, Volkswagen, Triumph and Suzuki dealerships, among others.
The group also sells new and used vehicles and motorcycles, operates service and repair centres, sells spare parts and provides vehicle finance and insurance support services.
The Commission noted that Hatfield did not currently own GWM Haval and Chery dealerships in the Western Cape.
The target businesses sell and service motor vehicles and provide related services, including the sale of original equipment manufacturer parts, maintenance plans, vehicle finance and insurance.
The Commission found that the proposed acquisitions were unlikely to substantially lessen or prevent competition in any market and did not raise significant public interest concerns.
The Competition Tribunal must still make the final decision on the recommended approvals.
