The Phala Phala farm gate scandal, which has been following President Cyril Ramaphosa like a bad miasma, will come under a spotlight again when Parliament ‘s Portfolio Committee on Police hears presentations on the petition seeking its intervention in the murder case of the late Lieutenant General Sindile Christopher Mfazi.
The committee has invited Mfazi’s widow, Lindiwe Mfazi, and the foundation of the late police general to participate in a virtual meeting on Wednesday, 30 September.
In a letter dated 17 September, committee chairperson and DA Member of Parliament Ian Cameron said the committee had received letters and submissions from Mfazi’s widow and the foundation in the form of a petition seeking intervention in the murder case.
“The matter will be considered by the committee,” Cameron stated in the letter.
Mfazi’s widow and the foundation have been asked to prepare a presentation and submit it to the committee secretary by Monday, 28 September.
The meeting will take place via Zoom from 08:00 to 13:00.
The committee has also summoned former SAPS Crime Intelligence analyst PH Dotyeni to make a presentation concerning submissions involving Major General Wally Rhoode and the Phala Phala incident.
According to the invitation, the committee received Dotyeni’s sworn evidentiary statement, complaint and evidentiary referral concerning statements allegedly made by Rhoode about the Phala Phala incident.
The committee said the matter particularly concerns Rhoode’s claim that the late Mfazi was informed about the incident and authorised a preliminary inquiry.
The committee also noted that a criminal case for alleged perjury was opened at Rosebank SAPS on 7 September 2026.
Dotyeni has also been asked to prepare and submit his presentation to the committee secretary by 28 September.
The two matters will be considered during the same virtual meeting on 30 September.
The invitations do not make any finding on the merits of the allegations against Rhoode or on the circumstances surrounding Mfazi’s murder. They indicate that the committee intends to consider the submissions and hear directly from the parties involved.
Dotyeni threw Rhoode under the bus when revealed on Mzilikazi Wa Africa’s podcast called Unpopular Opinion that he (Rhoode) reported the Phala Phala incident to Mfazi who then authorised a preliminary investigations.
