Orlando Pirates youngster Milimo Nalumango has completed his switch from Zambia to South Africa and is now part of Raymond Mdaka’s Amajita squad preparing to defend their COSAFA Under-20 Championship title in Mozambique.
The 19-year-old centre-back, who was born in South Africa to Zambian parents, previously represented Zambia at U-17 and U-20 level.
His move to the South African setup required SAFA to engage FIFA and the Zambian football authorities before the necessary clearance was obtained.
Mdaka revealed that the process was handled carefully to ensure that Amajita did not fall foul of international regulations.
“The boy has been here for some time. It’s just that he has played for Zambia,” Mdaka explained.
The coach also expressed satisfaction with how quickly Nalumango settled into the Amajita camp, saying the defender already knew several of his new international teammates from his time in the South African football system.
Nalumango’s inclusion strengthens Mdaka’s defensive options as Amajita begin their title defence in Mozambique, where they will face Lesotho, Angola and Eswatini in Group B.
For the Pirates youngster, the COSAFA tournament offers an opportunity to begin a new chapter in his international career — this time wearing the colours of the country of his birth.
