The need for greater youth representation, increased employment opportunities and improved service delivery emerged as some of the key concerns influencing voters during the local government elections.

Palesa Thubela said she voted because young people need a stronger voice in the country's leadership, and she believes their concerns should be reflected in decision-making processes.

"I'm voting because young people need to be represented. We are the future of this country, and we need leaders who understand the challenges we face," Thubela said.

She emphasised the importance of electing leaders who understand the realities facing younger generations, particularly as they look towards a future in which their needs and aspirations are recognised and addressed.

Meanwhile, Selaelo Fambe, representing the Africa Mayibuye Movement (AMM), said the movement advocates for a government that prioritises the needs of ordinary South Africans.

"We believe South Africans deserve a government that puts ordinary people first. We want to address the challenges communities face, particularly unemployment, lack of water and poor service delivery," Fambe said.
