Police have arrested a suspect linked to the murder of a woman whose body was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa on Saturday morning.
According to SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the suspect allegedly fled to Tzaneen, Limpopo, following the murder and was arrested by police at about 23:00 on Saturday.
Mathe said Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane commended Gauteng police for the swift arrest.
Dimpane specifically commended members of Crime Intelligence in the Ekurhuleni District, Tembisa South detectives, the Investigative Psychology Unit, Gauteng Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) experts and members of Bolobedu Police Station for their coordinated efforts in tracing and apprehending the suspect.
“I commend this multidisciplinary team for their swift response, coordination and determination, which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect on the same day,” said Dimpane.
“This is the kind of policing we expect from our members. We will continue to pursue perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence and femicide and ensure that they face the full might of the law.”
Mathe said the investigation into the other women’s bodies found in Ekurhuleni is continuing, with police following all available leads to trace those responsible.
