SAFA secures nine positions on COSAFA committees

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has secured nine positions on the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Standing Committees and Independent Bodies, including two key chairperson positions.

The appointments underline South Africa’s growing influence within the regional football governing structures and represent a strong vote of confidence in the expertise and experience of South African football administrators and professionals.

Former FIFA referee Victor Gomes has been appointed chairperson of the COSAFA Referees Committee, while Linda Zwane will chair the Technical and Development Committee.

The other seven South African representatives have been appointed to committees covering some of the most important areas of football administration.

They are:

  • Mxolisi Sibam – Finance Committee
  • Dr Thulani Khangelani Ngwenya – Medical Committee
  • Pius Clive Nqandela – Commercial and Television Committee
  • Pooblan Govindasamy – Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee
  • Tankiso Modipa – Disciplinary Board
  • Andile Ngconjana – Ethics Board
  • Job Mchunu – Governance and Compliance Committee

The appointments give SAFA a strong presence across technical development, refereeing, finance, medical services, commercial and television matters, futsal and beach soccer, discipline, ethics, governance and compliance.

SAFA welcomed the appointments, saying they provide South Africa with an important platform to contribute to the advancement of football across the Southern African region.

The association also said the appointments would strengthen cooperation and the sharing of expertise among COSAFA member associations.

SAFA congratulated all nine representatives and expressed confidence that their experience and expertise would make a meaningful contribution to COSAFA and the continued development of football in the region.
