More than 80 stalls are expected at George Hay Park in Johannesburg when the Parkview Charity Christmas Market returns from 20 to 22 November 2026.
Organised by Nicarela Charity, the market will combine festive trading with fundraising for community-based initiatives and beneficiary organisations.
Nicarela has previously highlighted its work supporting organisations that assist vulnerable individuals and communities, including people with disabilities, children and other groups requiring social support.
For traders, the three-day event is also a chance to reach shoppers outside their usual customer base. Direct interaction allows small-business owners to introduce products, build relationships and potentially retain customers after the event.
That exposure comes at a cost. Participation involves stall fees, transport, stock and staffing. For emerging businesses operating with limited resources, the financial return can make a significant difference.
One part of this year's programme is the Young Entrepreneurs' Market, organised in partnership with Tinker Colour Studio on Saturday, 21 November.
Pippa Anne, founder of Tinker Colour Studio, said the initiative was inspired partly by watching her own three daughters develop an interest in entrepreneurship.
"The idea grew naturally from my own home. I have three daughters who all share a strong entrepreneurial drive and often work alongside me," she said.
Anne said the initiative aims to introduce young people to the practical realities of running a business, allowing them to experience everything from product design and stock management to customer service and handling sales.
"Kids experience the full cycle of running a small business, from product design and inventory to customer service and handling sales in a safe, vibrant environment," she said.
She added that standing behind a stall and interacting with customers also helps young entrepreneurs develop confidence and communication skills.
For Anne, the initiative is not only about teaching children how to make money, but also about encouraging them to understand the importance of contributing to their communities.
"The kids pay a stall fee, 100% of which goes directly to Nicarela's community charity initiatives. We are also giving them the option to donate a portion of their profits," she said.
Anne said the selection process is intended to encourage participation rather than create a competitive environment, with an emphasis on passion, creativity and effort.
"We want to provide a supportive platform where kids of all backgrounds feel encouraged to step up, try something new and showcase their talents," she said.
The initiative also reflects Tinker Colour Studio's broader focus on creating accessible creative opportunities for children. Anne said the studio was established 12 years ago out of a love for children and art, initially creating opportunities for children who did not have access to creative spaces.
"When we give kids a little love, trust and support, the confidence that blooms in them is the greatest gift of all," she said.
The market will run from Friday, 20 November, to Sunday, 22 November, with food stalls, live entertainment and family activities forming part of the programme.
What the event will ultimately raise, what it will cost to stage, and how proceeds are distributed to beneficiaries will determine its impact beyond the weekend.
