Magesi FC Media and Communications Manager Abel Rakoma has challenged the club’s players to fight for their futures when they face Milford FC in their decisive Betway Premiership Promotion/Relegation Play-Off clash on Saturday, 13 June.
Rakoma was speaking ahead of the crucial encounter at Seshego Stadium, where Dikwena Tsa Meetse require nothing less than a victory to preserve their top-flight status.
“Tomorrow’s clash is more than just a game, and the players are fully aware that their livelihoods depend on the result. A draw or a loss will confirm the club’s relegation to the country’s first division, which could result in salary cuts and job losses for many,” warned Rakoma.
Magesi found themselves in the three-team promotion/relegation play-offs following a disappointing 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign. The club narrowly avoided automatic relegation after securing a dramatic 1-0 victory over Richards Bay FC in their final league match. That result pushed Orbit College FC into 16th place, while Magesi finished 15th on goal difference, with both teams ending the season on 24 points.
The Limpopo-based side enters the match second on the play-off standings with four points from one win and one draw. Milford lead the table with six points, meaning Magesi must win to finish top of the standings on seven points and secure their place in the Betway Premiership for next season.
“The management and technical team have done their part in preparing for this match. It is now up to the players to step onto the field and deliver what is expected of them,” Rakoma concluded.
It would be a significant blow for Limpopo football should Magesi suffer relegation. The province has already lost two clubs this season, with Baroka FC and Black Leopards FC relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the ABC Motsepe League.
Saturday’s encounter, therefore, carries enormous significance, not only for Magesi FC but also for football in Limpopo, as the club seeks to ensure the province retains representation in South Africa’s top-flight league.
