Hardly less than a month since he parted ways with Sekhukhune United, Cedric Kaze has been appointed as Kagera Sugar, a struggling Tanzanian Premier League outfit.
Not only is Kaze is only facing a mamoth task to save the from the relegation zone but he is also facing a mammoth task to transform the club.
The Burundian coach has wasted little time finding a new home following his departure from Sekhukhune United, where he parted ways with the Limpopo club by mutual agreement earlier this month.
Kaze has now been handed the responsibility of turning around the fortunes of Kagera Sugar, who have endured a difficult opening to their campaign.
The club’s poor start has left them deep in the relegation battle, having collected just two points from six matches after recording two draws and suffering four defeats.
Kaze’s immediate challenge will be to restore confidence and stability to a side that has struggled to convert matches into positive results.
The experienced coach, however, is no stranger to Tanzanian football, having previously worked with Young Africans (Yanga) and Namungo FC. His familiarity with the country’s football environment could prove important as he attempts to quickly understand the strengths and weaknesses of his new squad.
Kaze has also worked in South Africa, including a spell as part of the technical team at Kaizer Chiefs, before taking the Sekhukhune job.
His appointment at Kagera Sugar represents another opportunity to rebuild his coaching career, but the numbers confronting him make the assignment a demanding one.
With the club already struggling near the bottom of the table, Kaze will need to find a formula that can produce victories and lift Kagera Sugar away from danger.
The Tanzanian challenge therefore comes with little room for a lengthy settling-in period. Kaze must hit the ground running if he is to transform Kagera Sugar into a competitive force and steer them away from the relegation zone.
