Former Kaizer Chiefs tormentor Judas Moseamedi is fighting to revive his career after dropping into the SAFA ABC Motsepe League.
The 32-year-old striker, born in Mogapeng village outside Lenyenye in Tzaneen, this week joined Phinnet City FC in Limpopo after previously turning out for fellow ABC Motsepe League side Selwana White Vultures.
Moseamedi was once one of the most feared strikers in the South African top flight, earning the nickname “Chiefs Slayer” for his impressive record against Amakhosi during his time at Maritzburg United.
His professional career included spells with Black Aces, Cape Town City, Free State Stars, Maritzburg United, Stellenbosch FC, Marumo Gallants and Venda FC, as well as a short stint with Tunisian club El Gawafel Sportives de Gafsa.
One of his biggest moments came in the 2019 Telkom Knockout semi-final when he scored twice as Maritzburg United stunned Chiefs 2-1 at FNB Stadium.
He again punished Amakhosi in January 2021, scoring both goals in Maritzburg’s 2-0 victory over Chiefs at the same venue.
Moseamedi also scored for Maritzburg in the 2019 Telkom Knockout final against Mamelodi Sundowns, although his side eventually lost 2-1.
His journey has since taken a dramatic turn, with the once-feared Premiership marksman now hoping to use Phinnet City as a springboard for another shot at professional football.
At 32, Moseamedi still has an opportunity to prove that the “Chiefs Slayer” has not lost his bite.
Moseamedi’s professional league record shows the quality he once possessed. He boasts of 166 top-flight league appearances and 31 goals across his eight Premiership seasons, while national football teams also records six Bafana Bafana appearances and two international goals
