A warrant of arrest has been issued for former Defence Minister and ex-Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula over corruption allegations linked to her tenure as Defence Minister.
The warrant was authorized on Friday as the state moves to secure her appearance in court to face charges of corruption and money laundering, after she allegedly solicited and received kickbacks from a defence contractor.
The case has been postponed to 11 November as the warrant is held over until the next court date.
Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) spokesperson Henry Mothomane confirmed the development.
“Yes, I can confirm that a warrant of arrest has been issued but held over until 11 November 2026. Her attorney has provided the court with a medical certificate, prompting the matter to be postponed to the set date,” Mothomane said.
This means that while the court has issued the warrant, it will not be acted on immediately, as it has been held over until the matter returns to court on 11 November.
The development adds another twist to the proceedings, which concern allegations that have been before the courts involving Mapisa-Nqakula.
This is a developing story.
