Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his two companies are set to rejoin 13 co-accused in the main R228 million Medicare 24 Tshwane District corruption case.
IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court has on Friday 25 September postponed Matlala’s matter to 29 September ,when he is expected to rejoin the other accused in the Pretoria Regional Court.
Mamothame said Matlala’s case had previously been separated from that of his co-accused after he indicated his intention to enter into a plea and sentence agreement with the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
However, Matlala subsequently decided not to proceed with the agreement, resulting in his case being transferred back to the Pretoria Regional Court to stand trial alongside the other accused.
Mamothame said the accused face corruption charges arising from the alleged irregular awarding of a contract worth approximately R228 million to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company owned by Matlala.
The matter is scheduled to resume in the Pretoria Regional Court on 29 September.
Mamothame said the National Prosecuting Authority, through IDAC, remained committed to ensuring accountability in corruption matters and pursuing all those implicated in the alleged unlawful awarding of public contracts.
