The Joburg High Court has granted Mercedes-Benz Financial Services an order to repossess Lion King producer Lebohang “Lebo M” Morake’s vehicle.
The order, which was granted on 14 August 2026, authorised Mercedes-Benz’s request for the cancellation of the instalment sale agreement entered into between the car dealer and Morake.
It also enjoins Mercedes-Benz to trace Morake’s vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz A 200, track it down, repossess it and deliver it to it.
“That the plaintiff be and is hereby authorised to activate and/or cause to be activated the tracking device installed in the aforesaid vehicle for the purpose of locating and securing possession thereof,” reads the order.
The order , which Africa Daily has seen,also decrees that, in the event Morake refuses to surrender the vehicle, the Sheriff of the High Court should be unleashed to go and fetch the saloon.
“In the event that the defendant fails and/or refuses to return the motor vehicle to the plaintiff, the Sheriff of the High Court, alternatively his deputy, be and herewith authorised and directed to attach and remove the motor vehicle, wherever same may be found, and return it to the plaintiff,” reads the order.
According to the court papers filed by Strauss Daly Attorneys, Morake entered into an instalment sale agreement with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services on 6 March 2020 in Sandton for R785,423.45, inclusive of finance charges. Morake was expected to pay over R8000 in monthly instalment until he pays off the vehicle.
The company says it delivered the vehicle and performed all its obligations, but Morake defaulted on his payment .
Consequently he fell into arrears and was over R19 700 as at 5 March 2026.
Mercedes-Benz said it sent Morake several letters to settle the arrears and keep his account up to date.
But Morake did not respond to the letters, resulting in the entity cancelling the sale agreement.
After the cancellation of the agreement, the company approached the court to ask for an order for the return of the vehicle, as ownership remained vested in Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.
Morake did not oppose the application, resulting in default judgment.
