The Limpopo Arts Movement (LAM) has welcomed the appointment of Constance Kupa-Mabuza as the province’s new MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture.
In a statement issued on Wednesday 2 September, the organisation said the reconstitution of the Limpopo Provincial Executive Council presents an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between government and the province’s creative sector.
LAM congratulated Kupa-Mabuza on her appointment and said her portfolio would play an important role in preserving Limpopo’s cultural heritage while creating opportunities for artists and other creative practitioners.
The movement said it looked forward to working with Kupa-Mabuza and her department to strengthen the arts sector and promote the growth and economic empowerment of artists across the province.
LAM chairperson Mphoza Mashabela said the appointment could help deepen collaboration between government and the creative community.
“We warmly welcome MEC Constance Kupa-Mabuza and congratulate her on her appointment. Our hope is to build a strong and constructive relationship with her leadership, anchored in our shared responsibility to preserve the arts, empower our artists and ensure that Limpopo’s creative sector continues to grow and receive the recognition it deserves,” Mashabela said.
He added that LAM was ready to work with the MEC and the department to advance the interests of artists throughout Limpopo.
The organisation also wished Premier of Limpopo and the newly constituted Provincial Executive Council well as they continue serving the province.
