A Tzaneen pastor’s intervention has led to the arrest of a 49-year-old Limpopo man accused of repeatedly raping his 16-year-old daughter after the teenager allegedly confided in the church leader about the abuse.
Police said the suspect, from Mokgolobotho Village outside Ritavi in the Mopani District, was arrested after the matter was reported to Ritavi Police in Nkowankowa township on Thursday 30 July 2026. The teenager alleged that her father had been sexually abusing her for some time, with the most recent incident allegedly occurring on 27 July at about 5pm.
According to police, Limpopo Police Spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the case first came to light in May when a church member approached the pastor, expressing concern that her husband had been sharing a bed with their daughter under the pretext of helping her with schoolwork.
The pastor then spoke to the 16-year-old, who allegedly revealed that her father had been raping her for an extended period but that she had never reported the abuse.
The victim was taken for a medical examination, while the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Tzaneen
traced and arrested the suspect.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers welcomed the arrest.
“No child should ever have to endure abuse in the very home that is meant to protect her. This arrest sends a clear message that those who prey on children, even within their own families, will be found and will face the full might of the law,” Scheepers said.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on a charge of rape this week.
