Uyajola 9/9 presenter Jub Jub will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court today after he was arrested for an alleged violent altercation with an Uber driver at his girlfriend’s home in Edenvale about a fortnight ago.
National Prosecuting Authority South Gauteng spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said Jub Jub, whose real name is Jub Jub, will face a charge of pointing anything likely to lead a person to believe that it is a firearm.
Jub Jub was arrested and detained at the Edenvale Police Station after an e-hailing driver alleged that he pointed a firearm and fired a shot at him.
The driver alleged that this was after Jub Jub suspected that he was having an affair with his girlfriend.
The Ndikhokhele hitmaker was released on R5,000 bail by the Johannesburg High Court after challenging law enforcement for delaying to bring him to court following his arrest on June 14.
In the affidavit, which Africa Daily has seen, Jub Jub denied that he had discharged or pointed a firearm at the e-hailing driver.
He explained that shortly before his arrest, he had requested an e-hailing driver to ferry his girlfriend from Greenstone Mall to his home in Eikenhof, south of Johannesburg.
Jub Jub said he became alarmed when the trip from the mall to his Eikenhof home took far longer than expected. “It was about 7:30 in the morning and I was watching the e-hailing. The distance between my residence and Greenstone Mall is about 10 minutes and it took about 30 minutes,” he stated in the affidavit.
He said his concern was heightened because his girlfriend had allegedly been the victim of an attempted kidnapping two months earlier.
Jub Jub told the court that he repeatedly tried calling his girlfriend but struggled to hear her and that the calls kept dropping. He also attempted to contact the Uber driver, but his calls went unanswered.
Fearing something was wrong, he got into his vehicle and drove towards the complex gate.
“Before I went out of our complex, I saw my girlfriend alighting and running out of the motor vehicle towards the lift,” he said.
He claimed he then confronted the driver and demanded an explanation for the lengthy delay.
According to Jub Jub, the driver initially told him to resolve his issues with his girlfriend before allegedly moving towards him in an aggressive manner.
He told the court that he then took out a pellet gun and fired a blank round into the air.“The blank bullets make a loud gun-like sound,” he explained.
Jub Jub said the driver later explained that the vehicle had experienced mechanical problems and had stalled during the journey.
After the driver left, he went upstairs to check on his girlfriend. “When I went inside, without any belligerence, I asked my girlfriend what happened, whether she was in trouble and whether the driver had touched her inappropriately,” he stated.
According to his affidavit, his girlfriend assured him that the vehicle had merely suffered mechanical problems and that poor network coverage had caused the communication difficulties
