A 73-year-old manther has been arrested for allegedly shooting his 35-year-old wife dead at their home in Nkuri-Tomu village, Limpopo.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 15 October , facing a charge of murder, Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said the incident occurred at about 11pm on Tuesday when police officers on patrol received a complaint about a shooting in the village.
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim’s brother-in-law directed them to the house where the woman was found lying in a pool of blood on the sitting room floor.
She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her head and upper body.
A steel axe and ammunition were also found next to her body.
Ledwaba said emergency medical services personnel were called to the scene and declared the woman dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman was allegedly shot and killed by her 73-year-old sugar daddy.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and a firearm believed to have been used in the killing was seized from a bedroom.
The motive for the killing remains unknown, although police have not ruled out domestic violence.
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers condemned the killing and reiterated his stance against gender-based violence and femicide.
