The Reiger Park shooting murder case has taken a new turn following the arrest and court appearance of a second accused in connection with the deaths of four people, including two police officers.
Twenty-four-year-old Jamal Meyer appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after being arrested on 16 August following further police investigations that allegedly linked him to the fatal shooting.
Meyer joins 23-year-old Regan Cheslyn Collins, who is already facing charges stemming from the 7 August incident in Reiger Park, Boksburg.
According to NPA Gauteng communications officer Magaboke Mohlatlole, the two accused face four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, and charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mohlatlole said the four people killed in the shooting were Roleen Lessing, Jayden Magerman, Constable Tomatsane and Constable Sibeko.
It is alleged that the two South African Police Service Anti-Gang Unit officers were responding to reports of gunfire in the area when they came under attack and were fatally shot.
Mohlatlole said the State further alleges that, during the incident, the accused attempted to murder another victim and robbed the two deceased police officers of their service rifles.
The firearm and ammunition charges also arise from the same incident, according to Mohlatlole.
The matter was postponed to 25 August 2026 for a formal bail application.
Collins is being detained at Modderbee prison for security reasons.
Mohlatlole said the NPA remains committed to working with the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for the offences are brought to justice and held accountable.
