Orlando Stadium to host the Bafana Bafana’s AFCON qualifier against Kenya

Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg is set to take centre stage when Bafana Bafana host Kenya in the first of their back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers next month.

The highly anticipated encounter will take place on Friday, November 13, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00, before South Africa travel to Nairobi for the return fixture on Tuesday, November 17.

The two matches promise an intriguing contest, with former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy returning to face his home country for the first time since taking charge of the Kenyan national team.

McCarthy will also come up against South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane in a tactical battle that adds further excitement to an already significant qualifying double-header.

Bafana Bafana head into the fixtures in a strong position after winning both of their opening Group D qualifiers in September.

Mosimane’s charges started their campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Guinea in Johannesburg before producing an emphatic 5-0 win against Eritrea in Egypt.

South Africa also strengthened their confidence during the international window by defeating Egypt 1-0 in a friendly in Cairo.

The impressive run of results contributed to Bafana Bafana’s rise to 48th in the latest FIFA world rankings, placing them 10th on the African continent.

With qualification ambitions firmly on track, Mosimane is expected to announce his preliminary squad in the coming days as preparations gather momentum for the two encounters against Kenya.

Tickets on sale

Supporters will be able to watch Bafana Bafana in action at affordable prices, with tickets for the Johannesburg encounter already on sale.

Adult tickets cost R100, while children aged between five and 12 can enter for R40.

However, supporters purchasing children’s tickets must first select at least one adult ticket, as children’s tickets cannot be purchased separately.

Gates will open at 15:00, giving supporters three hours to enter the stadium before the 18:00 kick-off.

With McCarthy returning to face his home country and Mosimane looking to maintain Bafana Bafana’s winning momentum, the Johannesburg clash promises to be one of the highlights of South Africa’s AFCON qualifying campaign.
