The Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe Organisation has officially confirmed that Malaika Mushandu was dethroned as Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026, with the decision taking effect on 23 June 2026.

In an official public statement dated 22 August 2026, the organisation said the decision followed consideration of matters relating to misconduct and inligibility.

This includes an alleged failure to meet standards, requirements and obligations set by the organisation and the international Miss Cosmo Organisation.

“The Organisation hereby confirms, unequivocally, that Ms Malaika Mushandu was dethroned as Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026 with effect from 23 June 2026,” the statement reads.

The organisation stressed that the decision was not arbitrary, saying the title carries significant responsibilities and is subject to requirements governing conduct, eligibility, representation and compliance.

“The decision was neither arbitrary nor taken lightly. The title of Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe carries significant responsibilities and is subject to defined standards of conduct, eligibility, representation and compliance with the requirements of the international organisation.”

According to the organisation, it has a responsibility to protect the credibility and reputation of the title by ensuring that its titleholders meet the applicable standards.

Mushandu therefore ceased to be the recognised Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026 titleholder from 23 June.

The organisation said she no longer had authority to represent herself in that capacity, represent the organisation as the titleholder, or claim any of the mandate or privileges attached to the title.

The announcement appears to have been prompted by public discussion and representations concerning whether Mushandu remained the reigning titleholder.

“The Organisation is aware of various discussions and representations concerning this matter. It is therefore placed on public record that any representation suggesting that Ms Mushandu continues to hold the title of Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026 is incorrect and is expressly disavowed by the Organisation.”

The organisation also sought to distance the announcement from any intention to publicly humiliate or unfairly prejudice Mushandu.

“This statement has not been issued for the purpose of humiliating, embarrassing or unnecessarily prejudicing Ms Mushandu. It is issued to clarify the accurate status quo regarding the Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe Title holder,” the statement continues.

The statement does not publicly provide specific details of the alleged misconduct or explain the particular eligibility requirements Mushandu was found not to have satisfied.

It also makes clear that the organisation is not abandoning any legal rights arising from the matter.

“Nothing in this statement constitutes a waiver of any rights, remedies or causes of action available to the Organisation in law.”

The organisation concluded by reiterating its position that Mushandu was dethroned on 23 June 2026 and, from that date, ceased to hold the Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026 title.
