Matshidiso Shai has issued a public apology following the circulation of a video on social media, saying she takes full responsibility for her actions and asking her husband, family and supporters for understanding.
The statement comes after a private intimate video featuring popular South African dancer, choreographer, and content creator Limpopo Boy, real name Robert Matome Thoka and Matshidiso Matilda started circulating on social media platforms around 9 August 2026.
The footage, described as showing the pair in an intimate situation, spread rapidly and sparked intense public discussion.
Limpopo boy’s management described the alleged leak as a serious violation of privacy and said it was working with cybersecurity experts, lawyers and online platforms to investigate the breach and have the material removed.
The incident has added to growing public discussion around the circulation of private and intimate material on social media, particularly where such content is allegedly distributed without the consent of the people involved.
Against that backdrop, Shai on 10 August 2026 acknowledged the video currently circulating and the conversations that had followed.
“I understand the disappointment, the questions and the pain that this situation has caused,” she said.
Shai said she takes full responsibility for her actions and apologised unreservedly.
Apology to her husband
In a section addressed directly to her husband, Shai apologised for hurting him and for placing their marriage under public scrutiny.
“I am deeply sorry for hurting you and for putting our marriage under public scrutiny,” she said.
She described her husband as her partner, support and strength, and said she had not considered the pain her actions would cause.
“I value our marriage and I am committed to doing the work to rebuild the trust that has been broken,” she said.
She also asked for his forgiveness and understanding as she learns from the situation.
Shai extended her apology to her family, saying she was sorry for the embarrassment and pain caused by the controversy.
She thanked friends who had contacted her, checked on her and offered encouragement and advice.
Addressing her supporters, Shai said she understood their disappointment and accepted their criticism.
“I am not perfect and I will not pretend to be. I am human. I made a mistake and I am taking responsibility for it,” she wrote.
She said she remained committed to learning from the experience, becoming better and protecting what matters most to her.
Despite publicly acknowledging the controversy, Shai appealed for privacy for herself, her husband and their families.
“I kindly ask for privacy for myself, my husband and our families as we navigate this situation together,” she said.
She concluded the statement by thanking those who continued to show her love, grace and understanding.
