North West police are investigating an attempted murder case after Madibeng Municipal Manager Quiet Kgatla was shot while driving near Hartbeespoort Dam on Wednesday evening.
The attack happened at around 6pm on Zilkaatsnek Road as Kgatla was travelling towards Hartbeespoort.
Police spokesperson Col Adele Myburgh said initial investigations suggest that a charcoal-coloured VW Polo TSI bearing Gauteng registration plates pulled alongside and overtook Kgatla’s vehicle before the shooting.
According to Myburgh, two unidentified occupants of the Polo allegedly opened fire on the municipal manager’s vehicle, unleashing several rounds before fleeing the scene.
Kgatla was struck by two bullets, sustaining injuries to his arm and leg.
Despite being wounded, he managed to keep his vehicle under control and drove to a nearby petrol station at Zilkaatsnek, where he brought it to a stop and sought help.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the incident and rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
He remains in a stable condition.
Police have not yet established a motive for the attack, and investigators are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
No suspects have been arrested, and the investigation remains ongoing.
