A 23-year-old alleged gangster is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in connection with the murders of two Gauteng police officers attached to the Anti-Gang Unit.
The suspect faces two counts of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.
According to Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, the suspect was arrested during a multidisciplinary tracing operation over the weekend which led to the recovery of two R5 rifles at the KwaDukathole Informal Settlement in Germiston.
Mogale said the operation was led by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (DPCI) Serious Organised Crime Investigation, with support from Gauteng Crime Intelligence Tactical and Special Operations, the Provincial Tracking Team, Tactical Response Team, Anti-Gang Unit and PRASA.
The suspect was identified as allegedly having taken part in the killing of SAPS Anti-Gang Unit members Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko, as well as two civilian women.
Mogale said the suspect, who is known to police as an alleged gangster, was out on bail at the time of his arrest.
He also has several pending cases, including two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The recovery of the two R5 rifles forms part of an ongoing investigation into the killings and the criminal network allegedly linked to them.
Mogale said investigations were continuing as police pursued other people who may have been involved.
“Further arrests have not been ruled out,” Mogale said.
The Hawks said the DPCI and SAPS remained committed to dismantling criminal networks, removing illegal firearms from communities and ensuring that perpetrators of violence against police officers and civilians are brought to justice.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
