IEC election material stolen in Joburg business break-in

Police are investigating a business robbery after approximately 15 men allegedly broke into about 10 business units in Johannesburg and stole election material belonging to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Africa Daily can exclusively reveal that the incident, which will send shock waves across the country, occurred in IEC’s Selby branch, south of Joburg last night.

According to a preliminary police report, the incident occurred at a property situated at 515 corner of Prop and John streets in Selby.

It is alleged that security officers witnessed the group breaking into the business units in Selby around midnight on Friday.

One of the affected units reportedly prints IEC election material, which was also stolen during the incident.

The security guards who witnessed the incident reported the matter to police.
The police have dispatched members of the Johannesburg Central Local Criminal Record Centre to scene of crime to conduct investigations, while the National Crime Scene Management Team had been activated.

The Provincial Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management Team was also en route to the scene.
