Alleged EFF MP arrested after alleged assault on police officer

A 33-year-old woman, reportedly an EFF MP, was taken into custody on Thursday night following an alleged altercation with police at the Brooklyn SAPS Client Service Centre in Pretoria.

The woman is accused of causing a disturbance at the police station and assaulting an officer after becoming unhappy with the assistance she received when requesting the commissioning of an affidavit.

SAPS national spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe said preliminary information suggested that the woman had presented an affidavit that had already been signed.

Mathe said the woman was informed that the document had to be signed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths, as required by procedure.

She allegedly reacted angrily to the explanation, sparking a commotion that reportedly culminated in the assault of a police officer, Mathe said.

The woman was subsequently released on a warning and is expected to appear before the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court on October 12.
This is a developing story.
