Proteas brace for heavyweight Test battle against Australia

The Proteas are set for a major cricketing showdown this weekend when they open their three-Test series against Australia at Kingsmead in Durban.

The first Test gets underway on Friday, 9 October, with the action continuing through the weekend before the match concludes on Tuesday, 13 October, weather and the state of the game permitting.

Play is scheduled to start at 09:30 South African time, with the Proteas facing one of the toughest challenges on home soil against the Australians.

For South Africa, the series provides an opportunity to make a strong statement in the longest format and test their depth against a formidable Australian side.

One of the biggest talking points heading into the opening Test is the fitness of fast-bowling spearhead Kagiso Rabada, who remains in contention despite a hamstring injury.

Rabada’s presence would provide a major boost to the Proteas attack, particularly against an Australian batting line-up that will be expected to put the home bowlers under pressure.

Another major storyline is the possible return of Anrich Nortje to Test cricket.
