Former Crime Intelligence head Richard Mdluli and his two co-accused are challenging the validity of search warrants issued during an investigation into the alleged misuse of a police secret service account.
The accused appeared in the Pretoria High Court on Thursday 10 September for corruption .
The case was postponed to 15 September 2026 to allow the defence and the State to prepare arguments on the validity of the warrants.
Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the challenge relates to search warrants issued during the investigative stage of the case.
The State has completed its evidence-in-chief from its first witness, a retired investigator who previously worked for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and IDAC.
Mamothame said the witness is currently being cross-examined by the defence.
Mdluli, former South African Police Service (SAPS) Supply Chain Manager Heine Barnard and former Chief Financial Officer Solomon Lazarus face charges of corruption, fraud and theft.
The charges relate to the alleged misuse of the SAPS Crime Intelligence secret service account between 2008 and 2012.
All three accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
The matter returns to court on 15 September for arguments on the validity of the search warrants.
