The screams of “ f@&k you Unathi” and “ f@&ck you, b@&tch” reverberated in the quite streets of Randburg on May 16 Saturday night when traffic cops were arresting radio and television presenter Unathi Msengana for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol .
According to information received from a source, Unathi was allegedly stopped by traffic cops from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department who were conducting a routine patrol on 30 Boundary Road, Robindale in Randburg, near Linden.
It is alleged they stopped the former Metro FM radio host after suspecting that she was under the influence of liquor.
The mole alleged that hell broke loose when the cops wanted to search Unathi’s vehicle after they suspected that she was not only drunk, but was also driving while drinking.
They wanted to check if they couldn’t find alcohol bottles or empty bottles of ale in the car.
The tipster said Unathi refused to allow the cops to search her vehicle and asked them to show her a permit to do so.
It is alleged that after the melee, Unathi was arrested and taken to Linden Police Station where she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
This after police suspected she was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The former YFM DJ also opened a case of crimen injuria against the cops at Linden Police Station.
She alleged that one of the cops hurled insults at her, saying: “fuck you, Unathi.”
Unathi, said the source, swore back at the officer and said: “fuck you, bitch.”
The deep throat’s allegations were corroborated by Unathi’s truncated police statement, which Africa Daily has seen.
The statement, which lists Unathi as the complainant, reads as follows:
“The complainant alleged that on 2026-05-16 at 23:00, she was in the process of being arrested for drunk driving and said she denied that officers searched her vehicle without permission while she was arguing with Officer Magaqane. Then, a black, skinny, short JMPD lady with light brown braids swore at her, saying, ‘fuck you, unathi,’ without any provocation. She asked the other officers about the incident, but they kept quiet. She then swore back at the lady officer, saying, ‘fuck you, bitch,’ and CST Arendse witnessed the scene.”
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority in South Gauteng, Abraham Mohlatlole, said Unathi appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on May 19 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
He said the case was not placed on the court roll due to outstanding police investigations.
“The matter was brought on May 19 2026 and it was not enrolled pending the blood report,” he said.
Unathi couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.
