Police raid Johannesburg home of tobacco tycoon

Police have reportedly raided the Johannesburg home of a prominent tobacco businessman in what is believed to be a search-and-seizure operation.

A large number of documents and several electronic devices were allegedly seized from the property during the operation.

The businessman has previously been linked to taxi industry bosses and was once associated with controversial Crime Intelligence figure Firoz Khan.

His name has also emerged during testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating alleged corruption and questionable networks within the country’s law enforcement and security structures.

Officers reportedly arrived at the property armed with a search warrant authorising them to search the premises and seize potential evidence.

The circumstances surrounding the raid, including the items seized and the purpose of the operation, have yet to be officially confirmed.

This is a developing story.
