Alleged underworld boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has dropped his bid for freedom in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, where he is facing charges linked to an allegedly fraudulent property lease.
The charges stem from allegations that Matlala used a fake identity document and forged bank statements to obtain a lease for a luxury home in Waterkloof Heights at a monthly rental of R95,000.
His lawyer reportedly told the court that Matlala had decided to put his bail bid on hold until his attempted murder case, which is expected back in court in November, has been finalised.
The application was initially scheduled to run over two days.
The case has been postponed until 29 October to allow investigators to conduct further investigations.
Matlala’s wife, Tsakane, and two other accused in the matter have already secured their release on bail of R20,000 each.
