A 40-year-old Zimbabwean national is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after he was arrested with a suspected stolen vehicle and a fraudulent document at the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
The man was arrested at about 2pm on Sunday by police officers deployed at the port of entry.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the officers were conducting vehicle profiling and searches at the departure checkpoint when they stopped a white Toyota Hilux.
“Further checks conducted on the vehicle raised suspicions regarding its legitimacy, while a document allegedly presented in connection with the vehicle was found to be fraudulent,” said Ledwaba.
The vehicle, valued at about R36,000, was seized and towed to the Musina police vehicle pound for further investigation.
A case docket has been opened for possession of a fraudulent document and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers commended the police officers for their vigilance and thorough profiling of vehicles at ports of entry.
“Our members remain alert and committed to disrupting the movement of suspected stolen vehicles and fraudulent documents through our borders. We will continue strengthening our efforts to ensure that criminal elements are intercepted and brought before the courts,” said Scheepers.
The investigation is continuing.
