Two dead in Midrand incident under investigation

The estranged husband of television actress Buhle Samuels and a member of the popular music group Malumz on Decks were shot and killed execution style at Blue Valley Golf Estate in Midrand on Thursday morning.

Sources close to Africa Daily alleged that Thando Sonqishe, who is Samuels’ estranged husband, and musician Oscar Nyathi were killed when gunmen opened fire on the bakkie they were travelling in.

The two men died at the scene, while two other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

According to information received by Africa Daily, the four men were entering the estate in a Toyota bakkie when two armed suspects riding motorcycles approached them.

The suspects allegedly dismounted from the motorbikes and opened fire on the vehicle before fleeing the scene. It is alleged that more than 10 shots were fired in what appears to a be hit.

Sonqishe, who was driving the vehicle, and Nyathi, who was seated in the front passenger seat, were declared dead at the scene.

The Homeowners Association (HOA) of Blue Valley Golf Estate later issued a statement on the estate’s WhatsApp group confirming the shooting, which left residents shocked and shaken.

“The HOA would like to update residents regarding the incident that took place at the Main Gate this morning.

There was a shooting attack that took place external to the main gate visitors’ entrance lane on a vehicle with four male occupants inside.

Two male occupants are deceased and two male occupants were injured and taken to hospital by paramedics.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) and forensic teams are currently on the scene conducting investigations in line with official procedures.

The HOA team and Fidelity Security are also on the scene, and the situation is fully under control,” read the statement.
