AS we enter the month of June and the nation celebrates Youth Month, Sajonisi Youth Radio (SYR) will embark on an initiative to free our youth from drugs through sport. This radio station, which is based in the coastal town of Port St Johns, will host sports activities at Port St Johns sports field in honour of Youth Day.

The youth of Port St Johns are expected to participate in sports codes like soccer and netball and the event takes place from 9am to 2pm next Wednesday, June 16 under the theme “Curbing drugs through sport”.

Young people from all spheres of the small coastal town and surrounding areas are expected to take part on the day.

SYR Marketing Manager Cwayita Mntwini said that the aim of the Youth Day celebration is to empower youth through sport and other youth related activities.

“As SYR we felt that we need to put youth in the public eye, and it's also important for us to show leadership to those who look upon us. We are part of the community as a radio station, so we need to make our presence felt amongst them, not just hear us over the radio,” she said.

Meanwhile in Nyandeni, Libode Shushu grounds is the place to be on June 16 as the Mnya Annual Youth tournament will be taking place.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mnya and Libode, business guru Mnyamezeli Madolo, the aim of the tournament is to give local talent a platform as Chippa United MDC team will be there, scouting for talent and giving local coaches training.
