April 27, 2020
Pretoria, South Africa: South Africa will now benefit from Cuba's global effort to fight Covid-19 as a team of over 200 Cuban doctors has arrived in South Africa to assist officials in stemming the spread of the coronavirus.
The South American doctors landed in the early hours of this morning on a chartered SAA flight, Airbus A340, at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria.
Cuba is well known for its medical diplomacy, though it has not been without controversy.
In previous cases of crisis, Cuban doctors were the first to arrive in Africa to help fight Ebola.
The number of South African coronavirus confirmed cases in South Africa has risen to 4 564.
