Annual conference to attract more than 9000 delegates

South Africa, through the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) will host the 2018 ITU Telecom World in Durban from 09 to 13 September 2018.
This is the first time the event is coming to Africa and requires a focus on the appetite for ICT in Africa as a driver of development and innovation.
The annual conference attracts more than 9000 delegates from around the world, government and industry leaders to explore and identify investment opportunities and best practices for socio-economic development through ICT.
Some of the key discussion points will be around issues like, 5G for smarter digital development, trusting smart: collaborating on cybersecurity, Digital Financial Services and Satellites for a smarter digital development. The overall theme for Telecom World 2018 is “Innovation for Smarter Digital Development”.
The conference is hosted for the first time on the continent in order to increase the participation of other African countries, thereby increasing the possibilities of investment in ICT on the continent.
The ITU Telecom World Conference 2018 is hosted at a time when the South Africa is implementing key national projects through the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) which are amongst others; the National e-Government Strategy focusing on digital transformation of government services and the National ICT SMME strategy which seek to unlock the potential of South African ICT SMMEs sector.
These tools are creating an enabling environment for the sector’s growth and ensuring their sustainability.
